Kang Geun-seok finished the tournament despite difficulties in organizing his team.

On the 5th, the 12th Korea Father’s Basketball Tournament was held at Gimpo Gulpo Gymnasium in Gimpo City. The tournament was co-organized by the Korea Father Basketball Association and the Gimpo City Basketball Association. A total of 18 teams participated in the tournament, and the winner was determined through group play 안전놀이터 and a tournament.

The group stage started in the morning. Each team, ranging from the 40s to the 60s, showed off their skills without forgetting their age, and Kang Geun-seok of VoxDreams, a participating team, showed his leadership and passion by playing as a player alongside his role as vice president of the association.

Voxdreams ended the tournament early, losing 28-46 and 31-50 to Byhepta and Albatross, respectively, in their two preliminary matches. Although Voxdreams was eliminated in the group stage, the team showed a united front and enjoyed the competition with a positive attitude.

After the game, we had the opportunity to interview VoxDreams’ Kang Geun-seok.

“Our team is a strong team with a good seeding,” said Kang Geun-seok. We only had six players this time due to various reasons such as business trips of key team members. But we decided to have fun and play. Last year, we had a spring and fall tournament, and we were the champions of the spring tournament. We thought it would be rude to miss the tournament this time, so we decided to have fun and play. As expected, we lost two games.”

Kang Geun-seok explained how he prepared for the tournament: “The team members are all in their 40s and 50s and live in different places. We rented a gym in Byeonae on Sunday and practiced from 2 to 5. Some of our friends can’t come because of the location, but they come to the games. We try to have fun playing basketball and get good grades,” he explained.

“In sports, there are pick-and-rolls such as tactics, but as you get older, you don’t need tactics. Basketball is hard to learn in a short period of time. A friend who was good in the past is still good now. You can win or lose depending on your possessions. If the main players come out, the results can come out, and even if they don’t, let’s have fun playing basketball,” he said.

Finally, Kang Geun-seok talked about the team’s goals, saying, “Voxdreams has many famous players. There are selections such as Lee Hyun-min and Kim Min-soo. There is also Choi Myung-do in his 50s. It’s more fun to play with them than to win the championship. We want to have fun rather than win,” he concluded the interview.
