Pro basketball’s Chung puts brakes on DB winning streak…

Anyang’s Kwanjang Jeong handed Wonju DB its first loss since the start of the season.

Led by Park Ji-hoon (15 points) and Darryl Monroe (22 points), Jeong Kwan-jang defeated DB 99-94 in the 2023-2024 Jeong Kwan-jang Pro Basketball regular season at Wonju Gymnasium on Tuesday.

Jung Kwan-jang extended its winning streak to three and moved into second place (5-3).

DB, on the other hand, suffered its first loss of the season after opening with a seven-game winning streak.

In particular, Lee Jong-hyun, who transferred from Busan KCC ahead of the season, scored nine points and grabbed six rebounds in the first and second quarters to give Kwanjang a 53-39 lead at the half.

Trailing by a point, DB fought back with 5:38 left in the third quarter when Kim Jong-kyu (19 points) made a cool dunk followed by a pair of free throws.

A steal by Lee Sun Albano (19 points) followed by a two-pointer brought the score to 53-63, 10 points.

DB ended the third quarter with a 67-77 lead thanks to Kim Jong-kyu and Alvano, but Park In-woong’s three-pointer made it 74-81 and the game turned into a close one.

With 2:11 left in the fourth quarter, two free throws by DB’s Kim Jong-gyu made the score 89-91, and another tip-in by Kim Jong-gyu on the ensuing possession balanced the score at 91-91.

Jeong Kwan-jang pushed the lead back to two points with a layup by Park Ji-hoon.

Calling timeout with 49.7 seconds left, DB went on its final offense.

Park In-woong’s three-pointer missed, but Dedrick Lawson’s three-pointer with 12 seconds left made it a one-point game, 94-95.

However, Jeong Kwan-jang nullified DB’s game-winning basket with a free throw by Park Ji-hoon to preserve the victory.
