A Tottenham Hotspur (England) legend has backed head coach Enze Postecoglou’s decision to name Son Heung-min (31) as captain.

According to TalkSPORT, Gary Marbert (62-England) praised Postecoglou’s

decision to hand Son the captain’s armband and said, “He has helped set the right tone for the team.”

Tottenham

Had plenty of concerns ahead of the 2023-24 season. Captain Harry Kane had left

for Bayern Munich (Germany) and captain goalkeeper Hugo Lloris had been dropped from the squad.

With the team lacking a focal point, Postecoglou made a surprise decision to

hand the captaincy to Son Heung-min, and it’s paying off.

“Postecoglou has handed Son the captain’s armband and named Christian

Romero and new signing James Maddison as vice-captains,” said SpursWeb, a

Tottenham news site. With the trio at the helm, Tottenham are leading the way.”

“Heung-min was always a popular player in the team, but some didn’t see him as

a leader,” the media outlet said, citing a report from Football London. “But after

becoming captain, he showed a strong sense of responsibility. Even those around him were surprised.”

SpursWeb has hailed Son Heung-min’s appointment as captain as a “masterstroke,” saying it was the right choice.

The Tottenham legend said: “It was a brilliant decision to make Son Heung-min

captain. He’s a tremendous player. He’s a fantastic guy. We wish him well,” he said.

“He scored a hat-trick the other day and you can see him talking to his

teammates more on the pitch,” he added, “People around him look up to him.

Now he’s a senior and he’s leading the younger players,” he said, giving a thumbs-up.

Mavert is an England international who played for Tottenham from 1982 to 1998.

The “legendary” defender scored 27 goals in 477 appearances for Spurs. He

received much applause for overcoming diabetes to play more than 750 games professionally.

Meanwhile, Son Heung-min has scored six goals in the 2023-24 season, second

only to Elling Holland (Manchester City – eight). Tottenham is also leading the EPL,

as expected, with six wins and two draws in the early going (20 points). 19가이드03
