Badminton’s Ahn wins Japan Open for second straight week atop international rankings


SEOUL (Yonhap) (Yonhap) – South Korean women’s badminton standout Ahn Se-young (Samsung Life Insurance) has won the World Badminton Federation (BWF) World Tour Super 750 Japan Open. The world No. 2 defeated world No. 5 He Bingjiao (China) 2-0 (21-15 21-11) in the women’s singles final of the tournament on Tuesday in Tokyo, Japan .Ahn, who won her second straight Korea Open title on Nov. 23, rode the momentum to the top of the international podium for the second consecutive week. It was her seventh gold medal of the year .Ahn used an impregnable defense and exquisite offense against He Bingjiao to win the match. World No. 3 Kim So-young and Gong Hee yong defeated World No. 1 Chen Qing-tian and Zhai Fan (China) 2-0 (21-17 21-14) in the final. They overcame a 4-10 head-to-head disadvantage to avenge last week’s Korea Open final loss.
