The Klinsmanns, looking to qualify for their 11th consecutive FIFA World Cup, have been drawn with China and Thailand in the second round of Asian qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup North America.
South Korea were drawn into Group C with China, Thailand and a first-round qualifier (Singapore or Guam) on Sunday (July 27) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, after the draw for the second round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup North America, Asia.
South Korea, ranked 28th in the FIFA rankings, leads the all-time series against China (80th) with 22 wins, 12 draws and two losses. It also leads Thailand (113th) with 31 wins, five draws and nine losses.
It also has 21 wins, three draws and two losses against Singapore (158th) and three wins against Guam (203rd).
The Asian qualifiers for the North and Central American World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada, will be divided into two rounds.
The bottom 18 of the AFC’s 45 member nations in the July FIFA rankings will play the first round, with the nine first-round qualifiers joining the remaining 27 nations in the second round.
The first round of qualifying begins on October 12 this year, with the second round starting in November.
South Korea, which has qualified for 10 consecutive World Cups, from the 1986 World Cup in Mexico to last year’s 2022 World Cup in Qatar, will compete in the second round.
The second qualifiers will be divided into nine groups of 36 nations, playing home and away from November this year through June next year.
The first and second place finishers in each group will advance to the third round, where they will also earn a ticket to the 2027 Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia.
The third qualifying round will be divided into four groups, with the top two finishers from each group advancing directly to the World Cup.
With the 2026 North and Central American World Cup expanding to 48 nations, 한국야동 the AFC has been allocated 8.5 tickets to the tournament.
The remaining 2.5 will be awarded in four qualifying rounds and an intercontinental playoff.
