Hwang ‘looking for third straight AG title’ pairs up with Bahrain, Thailand, Kuwait

Women face Hong Kong, Philippines, and Myanmar in group play

South Korean soccer, looking to win a third straight Asian Games title, will compete in a group with Bahrain, Thailand and Kuwait at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games in September.

According to the men’s soccer draw for the Hangzhou Asian Games on Sunday, South Korea will compete in Group E with Bahrain, Thailand, and Kuwait.

The tournament was originally scheduled to take place last year, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was pushed back a year and will kick off on Sept. 23 this year. As a result, soccer, which has an age limit of 23 and under, has been expanded to 24 and under.

The men’s national team, led by Hwang Sun-hong, announced its 22-man roster for the Asian Games on Sept. 14. Lee Kang-in, who has since moved to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), was included.

However, there is no clear answer as to whether Lee will be included in the squad or not, and it is also important to find a replacement for defender Lee Sang-min (Seongnam), who was dropped from the final roster due to a drunk driving conviction.

On the 25th, Hwang said, “The federation is trying to ensure that there is no leakage of power in various ways. However, it is difficult to say because it is not a definite decision.”

With the Asian Olympic Committee’s (OCA) submission of the roster for the Hangzhou Asian Games closing on the 15th, the federation is looking to see if it can find a replacement for Lee Sang-min.

On Lee Kang-in, Lee said, “I can’t say everything (that is being discussed), but I confirmed positive communication with PSG at the time of signing. “I think it’s positive,” he said, “but it’s hard to say because nothing official has been signed. I think it’s positive because Lee Kang-in has a strong will to play.”

The men’s soccer team will attempt to win its third consecutive Asian Games title, following the 2014 Incheon Asian Games and the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games.

North Korea will compete in Group F against Indonesia, Chinese Taipei and Kyrgyzstan.

The women’s team, meanwhile, will face Hong Kong, 토토사이트 the Philippines and Myanmar in Group E. North Korea was drawn in Group C with Singapore and Cambodia.
